South Korea’s first National Fire Hospital officially opened on August 11, 2026. For our family, the ceremony was both a historic national event and an unforgettable personal milestone. Here is the behind-the-scenes story of how our local elementary school choir made it to a national presidential stage.
The Road to the Stage: 2026 Chungbuk 119 Fire Safety Children’s Song Competition 🏆
The journey didn’t start at the hospital opening. Earlier this year, my child’s school choir, the Wolgok Elementary School attached to the Korea National University of Education (교원대부속월곡초등학교), competed in the 2026 Chungcheongbuk-do 119 Fire Safety Children’s Song Competition.
Through hard work, beautiful harmonies, and endless practice, the choir proudly took home the Grand Prize (대상) in the Elementary Division! Because of this massive achievement, these talented kids were specially invited to be the congratulatory performers at the National Fire Hospital Opening Ceremony.
Stealing the Show: A Two-Song Performance to Remember 🎤
The celebratory stage was a collaboration between the pure, hopeful voices of the children and actual firefighters who work on the front lines. The choir prepared two breathtaking songs, and my child had a very special role in both!
- Song 1: “My Safety Hero” (나의 안전히어로) The performance kicked off with an original children’s song called “My Safety Hero.” If you watch the broadcast video, you’ll spot my eldest standing proudly on the right side of the stage, fully dressed in a replica firefighter’s suit (방화복)! Seeing them sing so passionately while wearing the uniform of our nation’s heroes was an incredibly touching moment.
- Song 2: “Butterfly” (by Loveholics) For the second song, the choir transitioned into the uplifting and emotional song “Butterfly.” For this emotional finale, my child moved right to the center of the stage. Standing perfectly in the middle, my child sang their heart out directly in front of the President of South Korea. It was a surreal, goosebump-inducing moment that our family will never forget.

Celebrating Our Heroes
This event was a beautiful reminder of the sacrifices our firefighters make. To see my child contribute to such a meaningful day—bringing smiles to the faces of the President, the hardworking firefighters, and the medical staff—filled me with absolute pride.
You can watch the full ceremony and choir performance on MBC News. The choir performance starts at approximately 6:45.
