Two Rooms and an Evening Together: The Westin Josun Seoul with Our Family | 2026 Notes
We booked two rooms and ended up spending the evening together with four bottles of wine and two boxes of food. That is the part I remember first about our June 2023 stay at The Westin Josun Seoul.

A staycation package had come up at a good price, so we took my mother-in-law to Seoul and arranged to meet my wife’s younger sister, who lived there. We also brought our two daughters. The hotel gave us somewhere to gather between visits to Cheonggyecheon, Namdaemun and Myeongdong.

Our Seoul trip in photographs and film
About three minutes, combining our photographs and short clips. On-screen captions are in Korean; this article provides the English story and visitor notes.
A Korean staycation, with room for Grandma and Auntie
In Korea, people often call this kind of hotel break a hokangseu (호캉스): a holiday built around spending time at a hotel, even without travelling far. Ours included plenty of time outside, too.
We had decided who would sleep where before arriving. My mother-in-law, my sister-in-law and Hyesom shared one room; Bogyeong stayed with my wife and me in the other. Booking two rooms meant my sister-in-law could stay the night instead of simply dropping in.
We left our car at the hotel before check-in, went to Cheonggyecheon and had lunch nearby, then came back to unpack. After meeting my sister-in-law, we headed out again toward Namdaemun. We were making good use of that short trip.

Seoul outside the window
From the room, we could look out across the city buildings. After walking around at street level, it was nice to see Seoul from above. We took several family photographs by the window.
I did not keep a detailed room inspection or the exact room-category name. This is a record of a family stay, rather than a comparison of room sizes or facilities.

Too young for the lounge, so happy hour came upstairs
Our package included an evening happy hour, but the girls were too young to enter the lounge. Fortunately, the hotel packed four bottles of wine and two sets of accompanying food for our two rooms. We took them upstairs and enjoyed the evening together.
There were shrimp, cheese and fruit among the food in the boxes. After our grilled-fish meal in Namdaemun and a walk through Myeongdong, we could settle down in the room rather than go out again.

My mother-in-law, my sister-in-law and our family sat together, ate and took pictures. Having two rooms was useful for sleeping, but this shared evening was just as much a part of the stay.

Breakfast, then one more stop before home
My mother-in-law had an early commitment and left the next morning. My sister-in-law joined the rest of us for breakfast, with an open view over Seoul.
The photographs show the children sitting by the windows. I have not identified the breakfast venue with enough certainty to name it here. After eating, we drove my sister-in-law home. We were not quite ready to end the trip, so we took the girls to Children’s Grand Park, in the neighbourhood where I grew up.

Finding the hotel on a first visit to Seoul
Save both names when searching: The Westin Josun Seoul / 웨스틴 조선 서울. This is the Sogong-ro property near City Hall and Myeongdong. Check the full property name and address on your booking, rather than searching only for ‘Westin’ or ‘Josun’.
The hotel lists City Hall Station (Lines 1 and 2), Euljiro 1-ga Station (Line 2), and airport bus 6701 by the lobby. Check the current bus timetable and airport terminal before travelling; our family drove, so this is planning information rather than a route we tested. Official hotel location and transport information.
Booking notes for September 2026
Our stay was in 2023. Do not book on the assumption that four bottles of wine and takeaway food are still included. Ask what your particular rate covers.

A few questions before you reserve
Does booking two rooms guarantee the wine and food?
No. Those were the arrangements for our 2023 visit. Confirm any lounge substitute or takeaway service directly before booking.
Would you combine this stay with sightseeing?
We did. We visited Cheonggyecheon before check-in, then Namdaemun and Myeongdong afterward. We returned to the hotel between outings; this was not one continuous walk.
What should an overseas family include in a hotel enquiry?
Give the number of adults, each child’s age and the proposed room arrangement. Ask the hotel to confirm what the rate includes for each person. If you need nearby or connecting rooms, ask whether that arrangement is confirmed or only requested.
A place to spend the evening together
We went to Seoul for a hotel break, but the girls’ first visit to Myeongdong, clothes from Grandma and our next-day park outing became part of it too. I have split those stories into separate chapters below.
For this part, I wanted to keep the room photographs and the memory of everyone gathering over the food the hotel had packed for us. It was a short stay, but we fitted quite a lot around it.
