Lotte World With Kids in Summer: Our Honest Family Experience

Visiting Lotte World with kids seemed like the perfect plan for a hot summer day. On August 5, 2023, our family went to Lotte World Adventure in Seoul for the first time. We usually visited Everland, but we wanted the children to experience a different theme park—and we were not confident about walking around Everland’s large outdoor grounds in the August heat.

Lotte World is famous for its huge indoor Adventure area, so we expected air conditioning, easy movement, and a comfortable break from the weather. The children did enjoy several rides and displays. For the adults, however, the day was far more tiring and overstimulating than expected. It became our family’s first and, so far, last visit.

Why We Chose Lotte World Instead of Everland

Everland had always been our familiar family theme park. We knew its spacious paths and outdoor atmosphere, but that size becomes a disadvantage in the middle of summer. The forecast was hot, and the thought of spending all day walking outside did not sound appealing.

Lotte World appeared to solve that problem. According to the official park introduction, Adventure is built under a giant glass dome, while Magic Island is the outdoor section across the bridge. That indoor setting was the main reason we chose it.

We also wanted the children to have a new experience. Even when a family already has a favorite place, trying somewhere different can be worthwhile. The colorful scenery, character displays, and compact layout looked as if they would make it easy to see a lot in one day.

The Indoor Park Was Not as Cool as We Expected

Our biggest surprise was the temperature. We had imagined that an indoor amusement park would feel consistently cool, especially compared with an outdoor park in August. In reality, it did not feel nearly as refreshing as we expected.

A large indoor theme park is very different from a quiet air-conditioned shopping mall. There are crowds, lighting equipment, attractions, restaurants, and constant movement. Some areas felt better than others, but we never had the sense of escaping summer as completely as we had hoped.

This does not mean every visitor will feel the same way. Temperature comfort is personal, and conditions can vary by day and by location inside the park. Still, anyone choosing Lotte World mainly to avoid summer heat may want to keep expectations realistic.

The Noise and Crowds Became Overwhelming

The more difficult part for me was the sound. Music played from different areas, attractions had their own effects, announcements carried through the building, and thousands of conversations blended together. Instead of hearing one clear source, I felt surrounded by several layers of noise at once.

After a while, it was enough to cause a headache. The indoor structure seemed to keep all that energy close. Even when we stopped walking, the sounds did not really stop.

This is where our experience differed most from Everland. Everland can also be crowded, but its attractions are spread across a much larger outdoor site. In my experience, the open space gives the noise and crowds somewhere to disperse. At Lotte World, many attractions, shops, restaurants, walkways, and people occupy a comparatively compact space. That convenience also creates a feeling of density.

What the Children Enjoyed

The day was not without good moments. The children enjoyed the bright indoor rides and had fun posing with the colorful character displays. Their smiles in the photos are genuine, and those pictures are still pleasant family memories.

The compact design also meant that there was always something new to see nearby. We did not have to cross a huge outdoor area to move from one visual attraction to another. For families who like a lively atmosphere and want many options close together, that can be a real advantage.

A Quieter Break at the Folk Museum

One memorable part of the visit was the Folk Museum area. Detailed models showed palace ceremonies, traditional buildings, and scenes from everyday Korean life. After the intense colors and sounds of the rides, looking at the miniature displays offered a different pace.

The official Lotte World introduction describes the Folk Museum as a cultural space for learning about Korean history and traditional culture. For us, it added variety to the day and gave the children something to explore beyond amusement rides.

Lotte World or Everland for a Family?

There is no universal answer. The better choice depends on what your family finds tiring.

• Lotte World may suit you if: you value a mostly indoor setting, want attractions close together, or enjoy a busy and energetic atmosphere.
• Everland may suit you if: you prefer open space, do not mind more walking, and feel more comfortable when crowds are spread out.
• For noise-sensitive visitors: earplugs or short breaks in quieter areas may make a major difference.
• For summer visits: light clothing, water, and realistic expectations about indoor temperature are still important.

This comparison is based only on our family’s experience on August 5, 2023. Crowd levels, indoor temperature, attraction operations, and personal comfort can all be different on another visit.

Why It Became Our First and Last Visit

By the end of the day, we had learned that being indoors was not enough to make a theme park comfortable for us. The close layout, combined music, attraction sounds, and crowds left us more exhausted than a day at Everland usually did.

I am glad the children had the chance to experience Lotte World. They rode attractions, saw the displays, and came home with new memories. At the same time, the visit made our family’s preferences very clear. We would rather accept more walking and outdoor weather in exchange for the space and less concentrated noise of Everland.

Sometimes a family trip is valuable not because it becomes a new favorite, but because it shows you what kind of experience suits your family best. Lotte World was that kind of trip for us.
